Product Ingredients & Benefits

What is the difference between grass-fed and grass-fed finished tallow?

Finished makes all the difference. It means better for the cows — and your skin.
“Grass-fed” means the cattle ate grass at some point but may have been given grains later. “Grass-fed finished” means they were raised on grass only — from start to finish. This matters because grass-fed finished tallow is more nutrient-rich, with higher levels of Omega-3s fatty acids, CLA, and vitamins A, D, E, and K, which are essential for healthy, hydrated skin. We choose it because it’s better for your skin — and better for the planet.

What’s the difference between whipped and solid tallow?

Just the texture — the benefits stay the same.
Whipped tallow is aerated to create a light, fluffy texture that spreads easily and absorbs quickly. Solid tallow is denser and richer, offering a more concentrated feel and slower melt. Both are equally nourishing — it simply comes down to how you prefer your balm to feel on your skin.

How do LINA balms support your skin barrier — and why is tallow so effective?

Because your skin recognizes what’s real.
Grass-fed finished tallow is rich in vitamins A, D, E, and K, plus essential fatty acids that closely mimic your skin’s natural oils — helping it absorb deeply and support repair, hydration, and balance. This makes it one of the most compatible and effective ingredients for restoring skin health and providing better skin support. Blended with extra virgin olive oil and soothing essential oils, our balms nourish and protect the skin barrier naturally. It’s why tallow is the heart of every LINA balm — and why your skin feels truly cared for.

Are your balms suitable for all skin types?

Yes — and especially helpful for dry and sensitive skin.
LINA balms are gentle, non-comedogenic, and made with simple, natural ingredients that suit dry, sensitive, oily, or combination skin. Whether you’re soothing irritation or just locking in moisture, our formulas adapt beautifully to your skin’s needs — even baby skin.

Do your products contain any synthetic or artificial ingredients?

No — just nature doing its thing.
Our balms are made with only a few, carefully chosen ingredients like grass-fed beef tallow, extra virgin olive oil, and essential oils. You won’t find synthetic fragrances, chemical fillers, no harsh chemicals, or anything artificial — just pure, effective skincare your skin can trust.

Why don’t you use preservatives or stabilizers in your products?

Because they’re not needed — and never missed.
Our balms don’t contain water, so there’s no need for preservatives to keep them fresh. Every ingredient is naturally stable, which means you get clean, long-lasting skincare without unnecessary additives. Just store it in a cool, dry place and enjoy the simplicity.

What are the benefits of using essential oils in your balms?

They target specific skin needs — naturally.
Each essential oil is chosen for its natural benefits: Chamomile soothes irritation, Rose Otto balances and brightens, and Lavender calms blemish-prone skin. They add more than scent — they support your skin’s health while making your routine a calming experience.

Does our tallow balm have a noticeable scent?

Not at all — just a soft, natural aroma.
While tallow sounds like it might carry a scent, our process ensures a neutral, clean base with no lingering smell. Any fragrance you notice comes gently from our essential oils — like calming chamomile, bright rose, or soothing lavender. It’s subtle, comforting, and never overpowering.

Routine & Application

How do I apply the balm for best results?

Apply to clean skin — a little goes a long way.
Gently warm a pea-sized amount between your palms, then massage into clean, dry skin. For extra nourishment, use a richer layer at night to wake up soft, smooth, and deeply hydrated.

Can I use the balm daily?

Yes — and your skin will thank you.
Our balms are made for daily use. Apply in the morning to protect and nourish, or in the evening for a deeper overnight treatment. Gentle, natural ingredients make it safe to use as often as your skin needs it.

Can I use the balm before bed as an overnight treatment?

Yes — it's perfect for overnight repair.
Apply a thicker layer in the evening to deeply hydrate and restore your skin while you sleep. Wake up with soft, nourished skin — no need for multiple steps.

How much balm should I use per application?

Just a little is enough.
The formula is rich and concentrated, so you only need a small amount — about the size of a pea for your face. Use more on dry areas of the body until your skin feels moisturized and comfortable.

How long does one jar usually last?

It depends on how you use it — but a little goes a long way.
For face use only, a 2 oz jar can last 1–2 months. If you're applying it on both face and body daily, it may last 2–4 weeks. The rich, concentrated formula means even a small amount goes far.

Can I use this balm on my face and body?

Yes — it’s made for both.
Our balms are safe and effective for your face, body, hands, and even lips. They're gentle enough for delicate skin and rich enough to soften dry spots anywhere.

Can I use the balm under sunscreen?

Absolutely — it layers beautifully.
Let the balm absorb into your skin first, then apply your SPF. It creates a smooth, hydrated base without interfering with sun protection.

Does the balm leave a greasy or oily finish?

Only for a moment — then it melts right in.
At first, it may feel a bit rich (especially if you apply too much), but once warmed between your palms and massaged into skin, it absorbs beautifully without a heavy or sticky finish.

Safety & Special Uses

Can I use the balm on broken or irritated skin?

Yes — gently.
Our balms are formulated to calm and support healing. For minor irritation, dryness, or redness, apply a thin layer to soothe and protect. If the skin is broken or inflamed, start with a patch test and avoid rubbing.

Can I use the balm if I have sensitive or acne-prone skin?

Yes — and many of our customers do.
Our balms are formulated with simple, non-comedogenic ingredients that nourish without clogging pores or causing irritation. Many people with acne-prone or sensitive skin find that tallow actually helps calm inflammation and restore balance.

Will tallow clog my pores?

No — it supports your skin, it doesn’t block it.

Grass-fed tallow is remarkably close to the natural oils your skin produces. It absorbs easily, nourishes deeply, and won’t clog pores. In fact, it often helps balance oil production and soothe sensitive or acne-prone skin.

What if I’m allergic to one of the ingredients?

We keep our formulas simple so you know exactly what’s inside — but even natural ingredients can cause sensitivities for some skin types.

If you know you’re allergic to a specific essential oil (like chamomile, lavender, or rose), or to tallow itself, we recommend patch testing first or choosing our unscented TalloPure Balm, which contains no essential oils at all.

If you ever experience irritation or a reaction, stop use and check in with your skin or a healthcare professional. You know your body best — we’re just here to support it.

Is the balm safe to use during pregnancy?

Yes — especially our TalloPure balm.
All of our balms are made with clean, natural ingredients, but TalloPure (unscented and essential-oil-free) is our top pick for pregnancy care. It’s perfect for growing bellies, dry skin, and extra hydration — without any added fragrance.

Is the balm safe to use on children or babies?

Absolutely — it’s how LINA began.
Our balms are made with 100% natural, gentle ingredients — no artificial fragrances, no harsh chemicals. They’re perfect for soothing baby skin, dry patches, diaper rash, or cradle cap. In fact, LINA was born when our co-founder Tsvety created a simple tallow balm to help her baby’s sensitive skin — and it worked wonders. We especially recommend TalloPure for little ones and during pregnancy.

Is the balm safe to use around the eyes?

Yes — with care.
Our ingredients are gentle and non-irritating, making the balm safe to use around the delicate eye area. Just apply a tiny amount and avoid direct contact with the eyes.

Rose Otto

What are Rose Otto and Rosa × damascena?

It’s not about luxury — it’s about what truly works.

Rosa × damascena, known as the Damask Rose, is the plant behind Rose Otto — one of the rarest and most potent essential oils in the world. Steam-distilled from fresh petals, it takes thousands to produce just a few drops of this precious oil.

We choose it not for luxury’s sake, but because it works — especially for skin that’s tired, sensitive, or reactive.

In short: Rosa × damascena is the plant. Rose Otto is the rare oil distilled from it — and the reason your skin feels calm, clear, and cared for.

Why 5% Rose Otto?

Just enough to nourish, never too much to disrupt.

Rose Otto is one of the most precious and potent essential oils in the world — it takes thousands of petals to produce just a few drops. While its benefits are remarkable, its intensity can overwhelm the skin when used undiluted.

That’s why we use it at a 5% dilution in jojoba oil — to deliver all of its calming, clarifying benefits in a way that’s gentle, safe, and skin-friendly. This careful balance makes TalloRose Balm effective for daily use, even on sensitive or reactive skin.

What does Rose Otto smell like?

Soft, floral, and quietly luxurious.

The scent of Rose Otto is gentle and grounding — never overpowering or artificial. It’s a true rose aroma, with light green and honey-like notes that soften on the skin. In TalloRose Balm, the scent is subtle and fades gracefully as the balm absorbs.

Will the rose scent be overpowering?

Elegant, not overwhelming.

We use a subtle amount of Rose Otto so the scent never takes over. It's a delicate, floral whisper that softens into the balm — not a perfume, just a moment of calm.

What skin types benefit most from Rose Otto?

Sensitive, reactive, or tired skin will love it most — but all skin types can benefit.

Rose Otto is known for its calming, balancing properties, making it especially helpful for skin that’s easily irritated, dry, or uneven in tone. Its gentle floral compounds support skin clarity, hydration, and softness

Will this help with redness or irritation?

That’s where Rose Otto shines.

Rose Otto is naturally anti-inflammatory and soothing — ideal for calming visible redness, sensitivity, or stress-related flare-ups. When combined with tallow and jojoba, it helps restore balance and calm to the skin barrier.

Is Rose Otto safe for sensitive skin?

Made for skin that asks for more care, not more force.

Rose Otto is one of the few essential oils gentle enough for sensitive or reactive skin — especially when used at a safe, balanced dilution. In TalloRose Balm, we blend it at 5% into jojoba oil, so you get all the calming and clarifying benefits without irritation or intensity.

Is Rose Otto safe during pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Always gentle — but always worth checking.

While Rose Otto is generally considered one of the milder essential oils, we recommend checking with your healthcare provider before using any product with essential oils during pregnancy or breastfeeding. For essential oil–free care, we always suggest TalloPure Balm.

Why is Rose Otto more expensive than other essential oils?

Some things are rare for a reason — and worth every petal.

It takes thousands of handpicked petals to produce just a few drops of Rose Otto. The process is slow, delicate, and done in small batches — but the result is a rare essential oil known for its skin-calming, cell-regenerating, and emotionally grounding benefits.

What makes Rose Otto different from regular rose oil?

Purity, process, and power.

Most “rose oils” are either synthetically scented or solvent-extracted. Rose Otto is steam-distilled, pure, and far more potent — both in aroma and benefits. It’s a true essential oil, not just a fragrance.

How is Rose Otto different from Rose Absolute?

Same flower, different process — and a cleaner result.

Rose Otto is steam-distilled from fresh petals, while Rose Absolute is extracted using solvents. We choose Rose Otto because it’s the purest form of the essential oil — more suitable for sensitive skin and free from chemical residues.

Storage & Care

How should I store the balm to maintain its freshness?

Keep it cool, clean, and sealed.
Store your balm in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat. Make sure the lid is tightly closed after each use to keep the texture and scent just right.

Do the products have an expiration date?

Yes — we recommend using your balm within 12 months of opening.
Our balms are made without water or preservatives, which makes them naturally stable. Tallow, olive oil, and essential oils all have long shelf lives when stored properly. Just keep your balm in a cool, dry place, seal the lid tightly, and use clean fingers or a spatula when applying — your skin (and your balm) will thank you.

Does the balm need to be refrigerated?

Not necessarily — but it can help.
Our balms are shelf-stable at room temperature, but you can refrigerate them to extend freshness or firm up the texture in warm months. Either way, the ingredients remain effective.

Bonus: Chilled balm feels extra soothing on irritated or inflamed skin — it's a gentle way to calm redness and give your skin a cooling moment of relief.

What should I do if the balm melts or hardens?

It’s natural — and totally safe to use.
Because we don’t use stabilizers, your balm may soften in heat or firm up in the cold. If it melts, just pop it in the fridge to reset the texture. If it hardens, warm it gently between your palms before applying — it’ll melt right into your skin.

Sustainability & Ethical Practices

Where is your tallow sourced from?

From clean, trusted farms, raised with care.
We source our grass-fed finished beef tallow from a small, family-run farm in Quebec. The cattle are pasture-raised in pesticide-free fields and never fed grains. This local, ethical approach ensures the highest purity and aligns with our commitment to clean, sustainable skincare you can trust.

Why do you make your balms in small batches?

For freshness, quality, and the love your skin deserves.
We make our balms in small batches to ensure every jar meets our standards for purity, texture, and effectiveness. It also means your balm is as fresh as possible — not sitting on shelves or packed with preservatives. Small-batch making allows us to give each step the attention it deserves, just like your skin.

Are your ingredients 100% natural — and what does that really mean?

Yes — nothing artificial, ever.
Every ingredient in our balms is 100% natural, meaning it comes directly from nature without synthetic additives, chemical processing, or artificial preservatives. We use nutrient-rich ingredients like grass-fed finished beef tallow, extra virgin olive oil, and essential oils — and nothing else.
To us, “natural” means clean, honest, and safe for every body — just as skincare should be.

Are your products vegan?

Not vegan — but still cruelty-free and consciously made.
Our balms are made with grass-fed finished beef tallow, which is an animal-derived ingredient — so they’re not vegan. However, we never test on animals, and we carefully choose ethical sources that align with our values of respect, care, and sustainability. We believe in full transparency, and we’re proud to offer a product that’s as natural and thoughtfully made as possible.

How do you ensure your products are cruelty-free?

By choosing compassion at every step.
Our products are never tested on animals — and never will be. We carefully select suppliers who share our cruelty-free values, so you can feel good about what goes on your skin.

Is your packaging eco-friendly?

Yes — we keep it simple and recyclable.
We use recyclable glass jars and minimal packaging to reduce waste and stay true to our less-is-more philosophy. Our packaging is designed to care for your skin — without compromising care for the planet.
